Lyles Golden Syrup 10.6 Fluid Oz Per Tin - Pack 2 Tins

Lyle's Golden Syrup was invented by Abram Lyle in 1883, and is used as an ingredient in a wide variety of sweet & savoury recipes. When Captain Scott set out on his Antartic expedition in 1910, he took with him some Lyle's Golden syrup. In 1956, some forty six years later, explorers found one of the cans. The syrup was still in good condition.

5Golden Syrup  Mar 18, 2009
By Sharon L. Buck "portraitnena"
What a delicious addition to my kitchen! I have a cookie recipe that calls for this particular product, and at first I thought "how much better could it be than using honey?? Well, the answer is, Much better! Not only that, it is scrumptious on pancakes or waffles! My husband loves honey, but he is stuck on this stuff! It's well worth the price!

5No Substite  Jan 06, 2009

I have spent 3 winters in New Zealand and have discovered what the Kiwi's call ANZAC biscuits. (cookies) When I asked our B&B host for the recipe of what I thought were incredible chocolate chip cookies, I was puzzled by one of the ingredients--GOLDEN SYRUP. When I returned home, I was unable to find this product anywhere but found it on line. The cookies haunted me and so I bought several tins of GOLDEN SYRUP and have really enjoyed making these fabulous treats for my friends and family who go wild over them. Substituting honey or sugar just would fall short of the true flavor and texture. I have gone on line to discover other recipes for this product which makes everything taste so unique.

Purchased Lyles for a side cooking project. I had previously used regular store bought syrup and the taste just wasn't correct. Adding Lyles changed the recipe for the better. I highly recommend purchasing if you're trying to create a sweet item

5Delicious Golden Nectar!!  Sep 12, 2011

I grew up on Lyle's syrup and love the delicious smooth taste. It's not easy to find in stores so I was thrilled to see Amazon carry it. Although it's not inexpensive, it does last for a long time, so all in all, it's a good value. Thanks Amazon!!

5Sweetness Itself  May 28, 2011

If you are unsure what Golden Syrup is, here's what Wikipedia has to say:

"Golden syrup is a pale treacle. It is a thick, amber-colored form of inverted sugar syrup, made in the process of refining sugar cane juice into sugar, or by treatment of a sugar solution with acid. It is used in a variety of baking recipes and desserts. It has an appearance similar to honey, and is often used as a substitute for people who do not eat honey. It can also be used as a substitute for corn syrup."

Golden Syrup is just perfect for baking tasty desserts, such as Treacle Sponge, to put on pancakes, or for sweetening your morning oatmeal. And a little goes a long way. For further ideas see The Lyle's Golden Syrup Cookbook (Storecupboard series). Golden syrup is vegetarian, gluten free, and free from artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. It's a great alternative to corn syrup (especially the high fructose variety) and sugar.

As an Englishman living in the US I often find must-have products, such as Lyle's Golden Syrup, at Amazon.com. The challenge is finding the right product, in the right size, and at the right price, keeping in mind the cost of shipping. The product I'm reviewing here is two 454g tins for $16.95, and since it is sold by Amazon.com directly, is eligible for Amazon Prime's free shipping. This is a better deal than buying Lyles Golden Syrup 907gr -32fluid Ozs Tin Each since you end up paying $10.20 for the product and then $8.25 for shipping, for a total of $18.45. I also favor the two smaller tins since the one big tin can get a little sticky after extended use!

Buy with confidence, you will not be disappointed. Recommended.
