A fun and interesting discussion of Chaucer and ME Mar 19, 2008
By aetius I have read the Canterbury tales previously, but with this book whole new dimensions have opened up (e.g. the use of Northern ME in the Reeve's Tale). This book provides both a historical and (especially) linguistic discussion of Chaucer and his times in England, with particular reference to the Canterbury Tales. Horobin obviously has much to say and so many points come out as almost incidental examples. As such, this book will bring more with additional readings. However, as this is an interesting and fun book, this is not a burdensome task.
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has already read the Canterbury Tales and would like to get more out of it, but does not want to delve in ME studies proper.
